Time Off

Hello folks, I am planning to take some time away from the blog. I am not sure for how long, as I have some personal issues to attend to. Updates will not cease, but they will be very minimal. #StayTuned..

Red Sox Get A Big Win vs. Yankees Last Night

Those of you who decided to stay up until just before midnight last night to watch the Red Sox game know exactly what I am talking about... If you're a Red Sox fan, you may have let out a sigh of relief along with an instant serving of bodily chills. When Jacoby Ellsbury hit a one out, three run homer to right center in the top of the 14th inning, I was EXTREMELY happy, not only because I could go to sleep, but simply because the Sox were able to beat the Yankees in a huge game. Well, it was huge for the Red Sox anyways. In a game where the Red Sox FINALLY got a DECENT outing from John Lackey, plus a bunch of innings (6 and 2/3 innings if my memory serves me well) from the bullpen, this was definetely a game in which the Red Sox felt they NEEDED to win. This win against the Yankees will be, in my opinion, enough to push the Red Sox into the playoffs. My prediction a few weeks ago that included the Red Sox falling out and the Rays getting in may turn out to be completely wrong.

Great Time At The Forum Last Night!

Alright so first off, thanks @TBLightning (twitter) for the free tickets the preseason game last night against the Panthers! The St. Pete Times Forum, although not complete, the Forum looks great! The seats are awesome, theater style and extremely comfortable. New lightning makes watching the game even better, as the fans can see the action on the ice clearly. I watched the Bolts skate to a 5-2 win against the Panthers, their first win of the preseason. There is a lot of excitement around the Tampa Bay Lightning this year, as expectations are quickly on the rise.

Marlins Place Leo Nunez On Restricted List

The Florida Marlins have placed Leo Nunez on the restricted list, and suspended him for unknown reasons. His agent also declined to comment on the topic. It seems like the club is trying to keep this as quiet as possible, at least for now. Story here via twitter @mlbtraderumors: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/09/marlins-place-leo-nunez-on-restricted-list-.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Edit: Now I'm reading on twitter rumors that he is headed back to the Dominican Republic.. just rumors for now, no one's sure what Leo is doing. Like always, #staytuned, I will have an update on this story as soon as I find out more and get a chance to post it here.

Edit: I just read on MLB Network that Leo is headed back to the Dominican republic to handle personal matters. Hopefully he'll be back playing at some point with the Marlins. Also, I hope everthing is alright with him.

Woody Paige and His Parrot...

GREAT video shared by the ESPN television show Around The Horn via twitter @AroundTheHorn. I absolutely LOVE Woody Paige, he's my favorite ATH guy. Can't miss this video. If you watch it you WILL laugh.

Gears of War 3

Gears of War 3 was released Tuesday at midnight, and was obviously a huge event. I will have more on this story on Monday through my Weekly Review article, but here's a link with some general information. By the way, I'm somehow not able to make my links clickable, I will hopefully figure that out soon. For now, copy paste. http://www.dailytech.com/Gears+of+War+3+Released+Today/article22784.htm

Great News For Marlins Fans

Good news, Infante wants to stay in Miami. Infante has made it known that he wants to be back with the Florida Marlins - well, the Miami Marlins next year - in 2012. Also, Stanton keeps hitting homers. Check it out: http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110920&content_id=24964814¬ebook_id=24965070&vkey=notebook_fla&c_id=fla

A First For Infante!

Omar Infante has always been a very good defensive player, but he's never been the most explosive offensive player. However, he was pretty explosive late in the game last night. Great call from the guys at Fox Sports Florida. Even though it has been a very very disappointing season for the Fish, I still love the team. Congrats to Infante for his first ever career walk-off homerun! Check it out and enjoy: http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?tcid=mm_fla_vid&c_id=fla

Preseason Recap: Leafs vs. Sens

Great game here, lots of craziness in front of the net. Not bad for the first preseason game of the season! Excited for hockey season? I sure am!

Rays Beat The Red Sox Yet Again

.
Despite the fact that the Red Sox are ahead of the Rays in the standings, it doesn't seem like the Red Sox have what it takes to make the playoffs. After losing 6 of the last seven against the Rays in less than two weeks, Tampa Bay is only 2 games behind the Red Sox. This is quickly becoming an extremely scary situation for the Red Sox. While the Rays have phenomenal pitching, the Red Sox do not. Outside of Jon Lester and Josh Beckett, the Red Sox have absolutely no pitching. Well, Papelbon has also been great this year, but other than him and the two starters, the Red Sox don't have too many solid arms. The Sox offense is definitely more explosive than the Rays' offense, but we have seen in the past that good pitching beats good hitting any day. As the season quickly comes to the end, my take on the AL East is Rays in, Red Sox out. Sorry Sox fans (including me) but this year just doesn't look promising. In fact, this year may be the year of the monumental collapse for the Red Sox Thanks to ESPN for the image. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/photos?gameId=310918102&photoId=1566239#photo_1566239

My Take On The Bolts' "Be The Thunder" Campaign

BE THE THUNDER! What a great marketing campaign for the Tampa Bay Lightning! I mean, it works so perfectly! The Lightning organization is asking us, the fans, to "Be The Thunder." Essentially, this is an attempt to get Lightning fans to be very loud. I absolutely LOVE this idea. It's like, the Lightning strike, and after that you hear thunder (the fans cheering, etc.). Its PERFECT! Before I explode with excitement for the Bolts, I'll share this link with you. More details on the new marketing campaign: http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/lightning/content/lightnings-new-marketing-slogan-be-thunder

Hockey Returns To Winnipeg!

Alright, so I wasn't even a hockey fan when the original Winnipeg team was around, but I am actually extremely excited for the new Jets. I'm excited to see the energy that will surround the Winnipeg team, as hockey fever has taken over in the city. Moving the Thrashers to Winnipeg was a great move by everyone involved. Not only is Winnipeg a GREAT hockey town, as evidenced by the excitement of local fans, but also, Atlanta was a terrible city for hockey in my opinion. The only sports that really work in Hotlanta are baseball and football... okay fine, maybe basketball to. My point is, it is a very exciting time for any Winnipeg Jets fans. I can't wait to see what this team will do. More on Winnipeg's hockey fever here: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=588843

Ovi Steps Up To The Plate...

I absolutely LOVE videos like this! Alex Ovechkin isn't that bad of a hitter actually! Yesterday, Ovi joined the Orioles for batting practice and threw out the first pitch. I must say, I am impressed. After a few ugly swings and misses, along with a few late swings, Ovi lined the ball crisply into center field as if he had been playing baseball for as long as he's been playing hockey. As he communicated with the fans after BP, we see that Ovechkin has a pretty good sense of humor. Check it out hockey fans, you won't be disappointed: http://video.capitals.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=32&id=123406

My Take On Sid The Kid

Sidney Crosby has been a poster boy of the NHL since he first broke into the NHL. Thankfully, a better looking man named Steven Stamkos is slowly stealing the show from Sid.

Alright, in all seriousness now, Sidney Crosby has been battling concussions since January. I read an article on NHL.com about his condition (I'll post the link at the end of the article) and I found out one thing: he's right where he was when he started practicing during the playoffs. Which begs the question: will he be ready to play up to the astronomical standard that we as fans have set?

My take on Sidney Crosby: this will be anywhere between an average season and a below average season for Sid the Kid. Sure, he may seem super human, but concussions bother even the best players in any sport. Crosby won't be back to full strength until late this season, or next season. Anyways, more info here: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=588812

Brodeur Eyeing Retirement?

As the next NHL season approaches, Martin Brodeur eyes what could be the final season of his great career. I've always loved Marty as a goaltender; in fact, he's been one of my favorite goalies since I first became a hockey fan. Seeing a man like Marty Brodeur leave the game would be sad, but would also be filled with happiness. With all of his past success, Marty is almost sure to get a spot in the Hall of Fame. If this is Brodeur's last season, he can easily retire with both pride and satisfaction. More info here: http://www.nhl.com/ice/blogpost.htm?id=2687

Coming Soon: Weekly Reviews

Alright folks, I will soon be doing a weekly article called the "Weekly Review." It's basically self-explanatory: I will pick one day and time frame per week to gather my thoughts on the events of a week and post them on here for you, the reader, to enjoy. Now, I'm still working on finding a time in my weekly schedule where I'm consistently free to do what I need to do, but I will come out with a day a time for you to watch out for. Also, my goal is to get my audience involved in all of my articles. Send me a topic, ANY topic, for me to feature in my Weekly Review. I will review it, see if I find it interesting, and will credit you for coming up with the idea. Any information, or ideas, or anything else that I receive from my audience, I WILL give the appropriate credit for. Just leave me something to use to let someone know so-and-so gave me this this and that i.e. your name, twitter @username, etc, whatever it is that you want me to display. If you want to submit something anonomously, go ahead, just let me know. I'm here to satisfy you, the reader. Thank you for your time, and #StayTuned.

My Take On the Red Sox, Yankees.. and Rays?

This comes straight from my twitwall page. I wrote this a few hours ago today.

Alright so if you've been following sports, you know the Rays swept the Red Sox in a three game series at the Trop this weekend. Also over the weekend, the Yankees lost two of three to the Angels, barely salvaging the series yesterday afternoon with a one run win. The Rays are hot, the Red Sox are not, and the Yankees are average. Is there reason to panic if you are in Boston, or even New York?

I was at Tropicana field for Sunday's game and I could say one thing: the Red Sox stunk. They just stunk. The one positive was a Marco Scutaro solo homer. Other than that, the Sox looked hopeless. Within three days, the Rays stole all of the hype away from the Red Sox and, quite frankly, shoved it in their face. Just the body language, not only Sunday, but throughout the entire series, was enough to tell you who really wanted to win.

I didn't really see any of the Yankees-Angels games, but my take on the Yankees: If they don't fix themselves, the Rays will catch them. The Yankees aren't immune to collapse just because they are in front of the Red Sox. They have just as many questions in terms of pitching as the Red Sox do. The offense will always be there, but we have seen it in the past few World Series: pitching wins championships. Phillies and Rays in 2008 had amazing pitching staffs, although Philly had the better group, hence the win for Philadelphia. In 2009, the Phillies rode their pitching once again to the World Series, but lost to a more consistent Yankees staff. And just last year, the Giants, with their lack of offense, won the World Series against the Rangers. All of these teams had great pitching staffs. If the Rays can make the playoffs, they have a great chance to make the World Series and even win it.

A Semi-Formal Introduction!

Hello, and welcome to Gabe's Take! I will be posting my take on various sports stories, hence the name of the page. I am currently 17, a senior in high school also dual enrolled in college classes. I was born in Kissimmee, Florida (right outside Orlando) and have lived here all of my life. I am a HUGE Tampa Bay Lightning fan, Florida Marlins fan, and I like the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Blackhawks, and a few other teams. I won't tell you all of my preferences, don't wanna spoil the fun! Also.. I absolutely HATE the Yankees and Penguins. I will post biased and unbiased material (mostly unbiased), depending on the story, situation, and my mood. If you have something to say to me, comment in an orderly fashion please. I am very passionate about my teams, but I also try to keep a realistic view of every situation. An un-realistic sports fan is never fun to talk to. So, stay tuned for stories folks! In the mean time, check out a few of my stories I have done here: www.twitwall.com/gabriel0430. Which reminds me: I am on twitter, and tweet actively: Follow me www.twitter.com/gabriel0430. If you want to talk to me personally, I am on Facebook. I will not accept requests from EVERYONE, so please bear with me. Message me personally if you want my Facebook info.
